I wonder if Apple really knew how right that statement would become?
Towards the end of every year the discussion arises as to what the next years emerging technology will be. We look at everything from hardware trends like tablets to software like Virtualization but one emerging trend that might have gotten over looked is the Mobile Application Development sector. 2011 has shown a huge boom in Smartphone sales from within the first quarter and I'm not just talking about Apple's iPhone although it did lead the pack with over 8.7 million phones shipped partly in thanks to the alliance with Verizon who sold 2.2 million phones from February through March. Over all smartphones were estimated to capture 50% of all new mobile phone sales market share by the first quarter of 2012 but as of today smartphones already account for 54% of the market share world wide. With the growing trend of smart phone users the push for mobile application development has also gone into overdrive, with now over 500,000 yes you read that correctly half a million apps currently available or soon to be released before the end of 2011 you can almost say, yep there's an app for that. Aided by the trending technology of Tablet Computers that run on Mobile Operating Systems more and more developers are jumping on board and writing applications that can take advantage of these newer platforms while consumers are watching to see what new app are emerging.
With the ever growing community of Open Source Developers more applications are being written for the Android platform in a shorter time frame then on Apple's iOS even though currently there are more Apps available on Apples App Store. Mobile application development has found it's boom and become one of this years biggest emerging trends. If you take a look at the chart below you can see an overview of the behavior patters of the mobile users in the last quarter of 2010. This data has become extremely useful to developers in allowing them to find out just how the end user is utilizing their phone and building apps to aid them.

Statistically in the United States alone 1 in 3 people have downloaded a mobile application to their phone, in fact on average Apple users average around 43 applications while Android users average around 35. So with that data it leads me to ask you this question, what applications do you run on your mobile device?
